Supply Chain Director

Basic Purpose of the Position

Develop, implement and realize the Operation strategy for Nigeria, within the BU strategy and in line with relevant company and functional guidelines and requirements.
Develop the Operations structure and manage its organization, in order to ensure the realization of the Business & Operations objectives.
Drive improvements in cost, cash, quality, responsiveness and time to market to support profitable growth of the business.
Responsible for managing manufacturing and technical investments within factory location of Nigeria. (Economical, investments, safety, health, risk management, Quality, manufacturing, environmental and technical).
Contribute to the OPS and business unit management teams by forging effective working relationships and gaining credibility and respect among colleagues in a highly-matrix, global organization.
Is responsible for driving connectivity between technical counterparts of Group Engineering, Group R&D, Group Safety, Group P&D, Group Procurement and Group PPE to ensure best practice securing and technological & technical advancements.

Operating Environment

The position is responsible for designing, leading, directing and controlling the end to end activities of the Factory operation including Manufacturing, Engineering, Plan and Deliveries (P&D) & Process and Technology (P&T) functions while aligning with Group Strategy. The incumbent is fully accountable for managing Production, P&T, Regulations, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects, Safety, Procurement and Supply Chain Administration. 
Our Operation has a Trade Union with a total employee base of approximately 300 Blue Collar employees (Company & Third Party) and 50 in staff category who directly and indirectly report to this position. Key in the Nigerian environment is to support the growth of the business, in terms of people, processes, systems and structure. Key remains to comply with group M&E, P&D, Procurement, Safety, Sustainability and P&T to build a strong and responsive organization, in a dynamic environment.
Key is to drive a more qualified OPS organization that can achieve high quality standards with an efficient cost structure by building stronger competencies developing local talents. 
The position oversees management of all areas of manufacturing to produce products and direct activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.
This position hierarchically reports to the General Manager in Nigeria whereas functionally to Chief
Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Manufacturing (CMO) Office both based out of Amsterdam

Principal Accountabilities

Key areas of accountability/responsibility

Development and execution of Nigerian Operations strategy with respect to M&E, P&D, Procurement, Safety, Sustainability & P&T (in line with BU and Company strategy)
Develop long term improvement and investment plan for manufacturing assets in order to meet current and future needs on customer service and profitability
Develop, implement and manage a cost effective and efficient Operations organization, standard working processes and systems, in order to enable optimal business performance and meet legal and company requirements
Ensure formulation, approval and management of the yearly cost budget for the Operation organization in order to have the right finances available
Ensure definition and implementation of lagging and leading performance indicators (KPI’s) and periodical reporting of actual performance against these indicators, in order to facilitate (timely) decision taking.
Ensure the implementation of a SHE&R policy for OC, in line with Corporate SHE&R guidelines and systems, in order to meet legal obligations, guarantee the quality of processes and products and ensure the license to operate
Securing risk management by preventing, mitigating or eliminating exposure to operational risks preventing business interruptions. By enforcing the group policy risk scoring model is benchmarked striving for continuous improvement of the exposure rating. Applicable for products/customer risk and operational risk.
Ensure continuous improvement of Operating Efficiency (OEE)
Ensure Quality & Packaging management and continuous improvement in both quality & packaging
Build project management capabilities and organization, for NPD’s and major operations projects. 
The goal is to improve our agility and speed to market and better manage SKU complexity.
End to end execution ownership in operations as well performance management to improve productivity and direct/indirect costs.
Lead the formulation of a strategy to achieve supply chain efficiencies and world class service levels ex-factory and in market including logistics & commercial 
Lead and drive people planning in collaboration with HR of M&E, P&D, Procurement & P&T to have good succession bench and to deliver results while managing complex operations.
Maintaining and obtaining required certifications for licensed production as stipulated in the group certification policy with regard to e.g. FCCS-ISO

Authorities

Priority setting in the Operation organization, in alignment with the business strategy.
Approval of organizational changes within Operation
Appointments, promotions, salary increases and bonus conditions within the Operation organization.
Budget accountability for the Operation Budget (personnel, fixed out of pocket costs, variable cost, projects).

Projects/Assignments

Develop and implement strong continuous improvement culture and lead operations transformation journey.
End to end execution ownership in operations as well performance management to improve productivity and direct and indirect costs. (KPI: productivity per manhour/indirect/direct production costs per kg/product line)
Clear standard setting and best practice sharing from group functions, with clear definitions of mandates and interventions.
Represents company in official meetings and technical permitting, NGO’s, Unions and other required licencing organisations to allow us to build/upgrade and operate our facilities.

Know-How, Skills and Knowledge for this Position

Proven strong operational experience in FMCG – Food sector with records of relevant achievements in a similar position
Solid experience of managing OPS functions in developing countries in Africa, preferable in Nigeria
Sound knowledge of Manufacturing, Supply chain operations, Quality, Safety, Sustainability and Engineering, Process & Technology
Understanding of other business functions such as HR, Finance, Marketing etc.
Demonstrable competency in strategic and financial planning and business development
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities with excellent interpersonal and communication
skills.
Strong situational leadership style and management skills with excellent ability to develop and sustain a high performing and multicultural management team.
Superior human relation and motivational skills that can influence the entire organization to achieve or surpass its business and financial goals. 
Effective people developer and team builder with “can-do” mentality, growing pipeline of people for succession and creating opportunities for people grow
Flexibility, easy to adapt and to respond proactively to rapid time to market strategies and scenarios changes.
Clear understanding of the work environment, cultural awareness and requirements (policies, procedures, business ethics, etc.) of a European/ Western multinational company.
Able to work in a flexible and fast-moving environment.
Proficient in English, verbally and in writing.
MBA combined with Engineering degree is desirable
